Open Space

Open Space Technology (OST) is a framework in which the participants create their own programme of self-managed discussion groups, ideas workshops and planning sessions, around a central theme, such as “what are the issues and opportunities facing the XYZ corporation or ‘community’ (neighbourhood, town or interest group)?”

OST enables organisations and communities to operate effectively - especially in circumstances of escalating change and complexity - by generating intense engagement, high learning and genuine commitment to taking ownership of action.

It is a simple, effective way to share power and enjoy diversity.

Facilitation of Open Space events is about ‘holding the space and offering some structure.
It requires authentic presence from the facilitator and trust in the process.

“I find that effectively holding a space is best done in a way that is largely unseen – this is why it is difficult to distinguish or describe.”
